Trade in services generated a surplus of USD 14,070 million in 2007 increasing 1.7% over the previous year's figure of USD 13,830 million.
Transportation balance, which had recorded a net inflow of USD 386 million in 2006, recorded a net outflow of USD 150 million in 2007. As regards to sub-items in 2007, freight expenditures recorded a net deficit of USD 2,531 million corresponding to 92% increase, while other transportation showed a net surplus of USD 2,381 million corresponding to 39.7% increase over the previous year.
Revenues from construction services performed abroad by the resident construction companies decreased by 13.7% to USD 759 million in 2007 in comparison with 2006.
According to TURKSTAT's departing visitors survey, tourism revenues increased by 9.7% in 2007 compared to the previous year. On the other hand, the average
spending per tourist decreased by 6.7% from USD 728 in 2006 to USD 679 in 2007.
Travel expenditures increased by 18.8% to USD 3,260 million in comparison with 2006. As a result, the net travel revenues reached USD 15,227 million in 2007, an increase of 7,9% over the previous year.

2007, more than 23 million non-residents visited Turkey
compared to 19.3 million in 2006.

Thus,
the number of non-residents who visited Turkey in 2007
rose by 19% over 2006.

Income account consisting of compensation of employees and investment income recorded a net outflow of USD 6,794 million in 2007 corresponding to 2.8% increase over the previous year. The two main sub-items under investment income, namely direct investment and other investment consisting of the interest income and expenditures, recorded a net outflow of USD 1,798 million and 5,273 million respectively, whereas net income flow of portfolio investments recorded a net inflow of USD 383 million in 2007.
In comparison with 2006, the interest expenditures of long and short-term loans increased by 17.5%, realising as USD 7,431 million in 2007.
The data on insurance and reinsurance transactions other than freight insurance with non-residents has now been collected from the resident insurance companies and reflected to the Balance of Payments statistics for the years 2006 and 2007. Accordingly, in order to include these data regarding net value of the earned premiums and received claims vis-à-vis the paid premiums and incurred claims owing to exchange of insurance services; current transfers item has been divided into two sub-categories as general government and other sectors, which has been further divided into workers remittances and other transfers.
Current transfers recorded an inflow of USD 2,226 million in 2007 reflecting a growth of 16.7% over the previous year. Specifically, the revenues from workers' remittances under other sectors recorded a growth of 8.8% reaching USD 1,209 million in 2007. Moreover, other transfers, which amounted to USD 221 million in 2006, posted an increase of 55.7% reaching USD 344 million in 2007.
